This essay hopes to add new hope and perspective for ANYBODY who is seeking better co-operation in global humanitarian efforts, and it emphasizes a popular saying among progressives: That Everybody Does Better, When Everybody Does Better"....

We increasingly live in a glass house as we negotiate the information age, the beuty of which is only beginning to be transparent....Keeping it transparent is a major objective...

Computing Potentials such as Needs Assessment Software may offer hope for real-time global democratic input of decision making....More participation is possible, and desirable on specific issues, rather than on vague, broad, agendas....Automatic language translation libraries may bring us closer to mutual understandings, as well.

A recentlypublished study claims that mankind has reached its evolutionary mental capacity...The notion of this brings to mind the pre-columbain claim that the world is flat! Leet it not become a self-fulfilling prophecy !

The whole world may not be able to agree upon one "Common God' for technical and cultural reasons, BUT, the whole world DOES have the potential to agree on one global, computerized, call-in-vote, networked-system for discerning the "Common Good"

The votes themselves will produce the priority of agreements, on needs, within a dynamically changing response to the conditions of need.

From fairness to tribal entities; to the ending of preventable suffering; to seeding of comets with DNA; to possible colonization of Mars;  to creation of sustainable resources.

(see "Needs Assessment Systems and Synergizing of Belief Systems that follows).

My observations on the etymology (word-origin) of the words God and Good are combined with observations on the human brain's evolutionary development; and, on continuing the development of our ability to comprehend and to further the cause of global humanistism.....

One possible projection for results of changed behavior, done by the World Health Organization, (despite its subjunctive criticisms), is highlighted, in this essay.

The essay breaks down into six (5) topics. They are:

(1.) World Poverty and The 1/1000 factor.

(2) Belief systems can get us into and out of trouble

(3.) Learning; Teaching new species into existance

(4) Cosmology

(5) Transcending Gods into the providing of goods

TOPIC 1 World Poverty and The 1/1000 factor.

Great Possibilities are in Abundance....

Promoting the premise that developed nations must feed people and alleviate suffering before the third world can gain independence is at the crux of what I want to talk about (while going into survival stategies, as well)....

I don't believe that the life-boat analogy applies here....What is needed to help the poorest of the poor amounts to 1/1000 of the income of the developed nations wealth....I hope to show ways in which Believers and non-believers can have equal parts to play in bettering worldwide conditions....

Creating a "brain" outside of ourselves is an accomplishment that is no longer pure sciencee fiction...Utilizing the brain to collect all of our good ideas , and to prioritize them in a humanitarian-first manner is something to yet be done...

By considering the needs of the millions of cohabitants of this planet who currently are either starving to death, suffering from treatable diseases, or being overrun by unjust distribution systems we can form the essence of what needs to be done....

As a segway; for the philanthropic Norwegians, interestingly, the word God sounds the same as Good, with the only diffence being the "umlaut" above the "o" (ie the two dots above the "o" in the Norwegian spelling of God)....Norway, also, has been a [peaceful] cultural pivot-point for democratic and socialist belief systems....

Whether Goods are personified through spiritual Gods, or whether they take the (Good) form of amortized debts -- through needs assessment strategies -- they are essentially about sharing and caring.... We need to return to the Goodness in our Gods!

By comparing these words in new contexts, Humanity might be able to assert more unity of purpose for secular and non-secular belief systems, worldwide!

Suggested, here, is the idea that important thinkers, around the world, could adopt a new view of God that lets the Goods [or ways for providing for actual needs, and transcending actual differences] supercede, in some ways, the cultural and perceptual notions about any one society's Gods/Goods....

Lets help improve our better forms of conciousness, rather than mitigate our too-encumbered ones! ...Suggestions, here, are re-voiced from "people-in-the-know" ....

An example of how cost effective aid can be, is that a $40 a year Global Friendship Donation from people in developed countries could finance the kind of needed changes that are brought-up by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The foundation is working with many experts in humanitarian relief...thanks to Bill Gates' generosity....

(check-out the web-site address that follows!)
*
www.GatesFoundation.ORG (also on "links" page)
*

$40 a year would amount to 80 cents a week per person from those who live in developed countries using the kind of philanthropic organization methods that Bill Gates (wife and parents) advocate!

TOPIC 2 Belief systems can get us into and out of trouble

A Psychological Basis for Emerging and Transcending Gods/Goods, Belief/Sharing systems

A recent "Reader's Digest" article [Dec. 2001] popularized the work of neuroscientist, Andrew Newberg, and others, who now see our ideation/sensation of God as products of developmental parts of our brain -- where ideas of Greater possibilities occur. Reading this article, I found myself interpreting this ideation/sensation of God into a generalized notion of Beneficiency which I call: 'Belief in the Cosmic- Intelligent- Stuff-of-Good'....

Infinite in beauty, 'The Cosmic Intelligent Stuff of Good', to me, includes all of nature and even such things as micro-organisms that can survive for millions of years surrounded by molten rock temperatures, and stuff like the very profound DNA structure that lives within them!

Logically presumable to be cross-cultural in occurrence, Newberg's neural evidence seems to come from parts of the brain that become developmentally "hard-wired" -- over time -- to deal with higher [cosmological] kinds of ideation/sensation.

Neuroscientist Dr. Ramachandra , added more evidence of a brain-development component to this view in his recent "Secrets of the Mind" PBS Nova Program,
[ISBN:1-57807-806-7]

We are just beginning to realize how experientially and individually formative our belief systems are....Ultimately, for us as humanists, then, it becomes a matter of paying attention to whom and to what the ideation/sensation of Good is ascribed.

With the newly developing science of Psychological Evolution, we find suggestion of even more evidence of growth, and potential for growth for the human brain, 'evolutionarily speaking'....

Because broad notions of beneficence, ie. Gods/Goods, Beliefs/Sharing systems, occur in all human beings, they are a mark of our evolved brain's powers of consciousness, and are a mark of its ability to grasp larger realities....

Idea Flow Chart:

^                                                      v

If we take into consideration what this writer's Master's degree advisor used to say: "that there are perceived needs; political needs; and then there are actual needs", we begin to appreciate Needs Assessment Strategies (more to follow) which are used to determine Gods/Goods, Belief/Sharing systems.

TOPIC 3 Learning; Teaching new species into existance

Evolution and Behavior.

With Psychological Evolution, we might even suggest that as our collective awareness of Potential for Gods/Goods, Belief/Sharing systems, increases - so, too, does our collective potential for survival...

Existential rather than reduction-alist kind of
thinking is needed. We must encourage scientific progress toward sustain-ability in all areas, rather than developing nay-sayer, self-fulfilling prophecies of Armageddon

One Good, many Gods?

As we get to know the Earth as a unified biological system, it would seem that there is -- only one GOOD..; that being ... abundant and resplendant LIFE itself. (more to follow)

Life is conciousness! It may be conciousness that caused the first single cell organism to divide and evolve! We all share it! Everything else, within-it, is in a progression, or digression (like the gravitational pull, on rocks, and mega power of super-novae, and idea-forming pieces of paper with human history and inscribed human belief systems.

To the extent that all matter -- everywhere is made up of energy; then, all things that are in existance make up a sort of conciousness, or a form of life!

Here is a little formula that supposes that everything knowable is a form of energy (subatomic or mega-kinetic)

ENERGY = LIFE
LIFE = INTELLIGENCE
INTELLIGENCE MAY BE FOUND IN CHAOS

A devout friend of mine once gave me the notion that "How is more important than why"! So, too: existance would be more important than substance, and anti-malthusianism (or sharing-with and believing-in others more important than greed, or having).

How, then, is greed, or simply wanting more of something while ignoring others' needs affecting our world, and what can we do differently?

Survival?

Potentially -- with certain positive actions on our parts - a future-times Evolutionary Psychologist, looking back on our times, might note that a an increase in available medicines and food took place, creating a marked reduction in war; and, he/she might conclude that a evolutionary step-forward in man-kind's psychological development must have occurred.

If we take the approach of asking terrorists: “why do you confront us, so?”, “what can we do for you”.... We may get an entirely different kind of dynamic to work with.

There are plenty of resources to go around.

Noting for its contemporary relevance -- Albert Einstein once said: "Peace cannot be maintained through force; rather, it must be achieved through understanding"....

Former president Jimmy Carter would concur, saying that "war itself, is basically evil". Another good adage, is: "you can catch more flies with honey than you can with vinegar!"

As humanity becomes increasingly interdependent, our abilities to reason toward Greater possibilities will now have to evolve further. By expanding our cultural views, primarily toward provision for the needs of the many; then maybe, survival of the most beneficent could become survival of the fittest....

TOPIC 4 Cosmology

Belief Systems as Basis for Sharing Inter-Cultural, Transcending Gods/Goods

As part of my own developing belief system, with its own notions of beneficence, I allow myself to popularize the Gods/Goods, Belief/Sharing systems, that I believe in, and to try incorporating other belief systems, universally, into one total belief system which I call Belief In Gods/Goods [ways of providing],..... [please see my I love Jesus page, too!]

With the approach of re-describing those "personified" traits of God with the name "(transcending) Gods/Goods", or Belief/Sharing systems, I allow myself more freedom to think about the Potential Universality of Gods/Goods. I can more readily explore the often practical and awe-

inspiring metaphors that make up the moral basis of religions worldwide....Too, I can stay true to an accommodation of all religions as having potential to be united in purpose.

For the protagonists of those religions, I like the name "Divine Educators" which was coined by the founder of the Bahai faith to describe mystical personages of various religions sent by a common God/Set-of-Goods to guide us spiritually....

The spiritual journey ends, or progresses, I believe, with a psychological Heaven, or "Haven", for which, if we are smart, we will prepare ourselves by: "Doing Good Deeds, Showing Love, Giving Love, Loving our Families, Loving our Neighbors, Loving those we Meet, Showing Mercy, Kindness, and Compassion".... Then, when we are finally ready to pass from our temporal being, we can find comfort in our knowledge of ourselves as Children of God/Good.

Continued study of the spiritual leaders and prayer for enlightenment will always have a basis in knowing the Principles of Gods/Goods Belief/Sharing systems.

Study of more secular documents such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights from the United Nations can serve well, too!

Atheists might recognize some sense of synergy in 'the cosmic intelligent stuff of life' - as in the the structure of DNA -- and, most would embrace human needs assessments - for the good of all.

Abraham Lincoln once said: "Let us have faith that right makes might, and in that faith let us dare to do our duty, as we understand it...” Practitioners of non-violence, in particular, bring this thinking to a new level.

Communication with the newly perceived Gods/Goods , then becomes/remains communication with the higher potentials that can be found within ourselves, amongst ourselves, and around ourselves.

Because the Transcending Gods/Goods have so much to do with our lifestyles and our interactions with others, we can no longer be compelled to force one society's concepts of a Gods/Goods, Belief/Sharing systems, upon another society....Urging a Globalized Understanding of the Many Transcending Gods/Goods....A coming to terms, if you will.

Globally we must love each other more, through sharing and caring. We must learn what the "Divine Educators" meant for us to learn about religious co-operation, and about our about own natures. I like the saying that: "The greatest thing you'll ever learn is to simply love, and be loved in return".

TOPIC 5 Transcending Gods

Needs Assessments and Globalization of Transcending Gods/Goods Belief/Sharing systems.

We all live in a world in which there are troubles that are increasingly pervasive to our collective consciousness, making this construct of Universal Gods/Goods Belief/Sharing systems seem even more useful.

Our evolving global social interactions have brought us to a point, now, where we need to no longer see one generalized god as being better than an other.., suggesting that it is our social-interactions and the transcending, beneficial ways of doing Gods/Goods which we must cling to.

There are definitely forces at work which defy description, but here, again, we are evolving..

We must work especially at recognizing those forces which emanate from within, and then more strictly employ the "Golden Rule".

In organization management, the keywords for finding the 'Transcending Gods/Goods, Belief/Sharing systems, are the words: "Needs Assessments".

I have known people around me who were having to completely readjust their belief systems... I realized how stressful this was, when I was an assembler in a factory working in close factory/production relationships with former Hmong villagers who had previously held creature myths and now were faced with the TV Devil!

For us, a re-mapping of our realities to include others of the world into a Humane Needs Assessment seems like our only best course of action.

One possibility that I see is an eventual worldwide needs input/output system that is maintained as a large, constantly updated, computerized system with the ability to do "decision matrix" kinds of prioritization - from a democratic set of inputs, in real time.

Already, demographic data is being charted with geographic exactitude with the new Geographic Information Systems that some regions of the world are employing. It is amazing how much better organized planning and response can be in a wide variety of applications.

As we get to know ourselves as others see us, we will increasingly comprehend how much disparity and inequity exists currently in the Sharing of World Resources.

We need to Encourage the general gatherings together from all around the world to do needs assessments such as those tried with the Kioto and Johannesburg's treaty's attempts to improve worldwide health, to give environmental protection, and to promote justice for all.

Jeffrey Sachs, former President of The World Health Organization, tells us that through a Needs Assessment study The World.Health.Organization. (despite its subjunctive criticisms) concluded that if ONE CENT OF EVERY TEN DOLLARS of the developed countries' wealth went to aiding the starving and disease ridden peoples of the world, then, we could eliminate starvation and many of the deaths currently wrought by disease. Bringing to an end what has been called "absolute poverty" -- for the first time in human history..

While atheists might recognize some sense of synergy in 'the cosmic intelligent stuff of life' - as in the the structure of DNA -- most would embrace human needs assessments - for the Gods/Goods Belief/Sharing systems of all.

Religions of the world suggest themselves as expressions of socio-centric belief, therefore, it behooves us to recognize that these beliefs stem from our formative experiences with aspects of the environment, and from aspects of previous inter-cultural interactions.

There is a diversity to these beliefs that must be respected while still looking at how all of humanity can help all of humanity.

To achieve these ends, then, we might embrace and Share what Humanity Knows as Gods/Goods, Belief/Sharing, systems while recognizing that God/Good in his/her/its many forms could be an expression of an individual culture's and individual person's notion of that which is God/Good.

Finally, there are many different kinds of Gods/Goods, and needs assessments can be designed to take them all into account with dedicated expertise from all disciplines of life.

Such strategies could even expand our whole premise for existence, and basis for world economy into one of Acknowledging and Providing Gods/Goods For All. © PJ 2004 Plain Text messages can be sent to
